ECTS CREDITS | 4 | ||||||||
DEPARTMENT | Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology, including Ecumenism | ||||||||
DESCRIPTION | Content: The study-unit will attempt to trace the historical development of the subject of philosophy of religion, with particular attention to the shift from philosophical theology to the philosophy of religion. It will then attempt to show the way in which our way of speaking of God is interrelated with our way of understanding ourselves and our reality. Subsequently, special reference will be made to the concepts of ‘causality’, ‘analogy’ and ‘existence’, and the conceivability of such concepts where God is concerned will be examined. Objectives: (i) Integrating themes in Philosophy and Theology. (ii) Introducing students to themes in the philosophy of religion. (iii) Evaluating philosophically different kinds of argument for the existence of God. (iv) Examining the philosophical possibility of making literal statements about God.
