DESCRIPTION The content of this study-unit elaborates in great detail how to identify nail disease so that subsequent therapy will be effective. This unit provides, treatment protocols, surgical protocols and follow-up advice when treating nail pathologies. Content of this unit includes: nail signs and symptoms, an approach to initial examination of the nail, differential diagnosis of nail disease, treatment of nail pathologies, nail surgery and patient education.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to provide podiatrists with specific knowledge on nail disease and its management.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a high-level clinical skills and professionalism in the management of the nail pathologies.
- Critically evaluate strategies for the assessment, prevention and management of nail pathologies in all patient groups.
- Develop and justify management regimes based on an understanding of the pathology of the nail and any further complications or underlying disease.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to assess, diagnose and provide treatment, advice and education to patients presenting inside a podiatric clinic with a nail pathology.
