DESCRIPTION This is a clinically based study-unit in which students undertake clinical podiatric practice at the Diabetes Out-patients' Foot Clinic . This study-unit will provide students with specific knowledge on vascular assessment, diabetes and its management especially with regards to the diabetic foot enabling them to be at the forefront of their discipline.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this unit is to develop high-level clinical skills and professionalism in vascular, neurological, dermatological assessment of the high risk diabetic foot.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a high-level clinical skills and professionalism in the management of the diabetic foot.
- Critically evaluate strategies for the assessment, prevention, management and rehabilitation of lower limb.
- Develop and justify management regimes based on an understanding of the pathology of lower limb complications.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to assess, diagnose and provide treatment, advice and education to patients living with Type-2 diabetes and who are at high risk from developing a foot complication.
