DESCRIPTION | The aim of this study-unit is to enable practitioners to formalise and develop their knowledge and understanding of principles in physiology and pathology related to obstetrics and gynaecology. Students will also develop their evaluative, problem solving and critical thinking skills to enable them to apply this knowledge and deliver a high quality service to their patients. This unit focuses on the obstetric and gynaecological physiology and pathology. In this study-unit the obstetric and gynaecological physiology and pathology are dealt with. These include: - Physiology of pregnancy; - Endocrinology; - Fetal Anomaly; - Pathological states in obstetrics and gynaecology; - Pregnancy anomalies. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to: - enable students to gain knowledge of the principles of physiology and pathology in relation to obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound; - provide the knowledge to be able to image and address the needs of patients through good image quality; - enable HCP to formalise and develop their knowledge and understanding of physiology and pathology; - enable students to be competent and knowledgeable in obstetric and gynaecological physiology and pathology. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate an understanding of the physiology and pathology related to obstetric and gynaecological physiology and pathology; - Demonstrate an understanding of fetal anomalies; - Apply this knowledge into clinical practice during scanning. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognise physiological principles relevant to the area; - Identify anatomical variants; - Recognise pathologies; - Use this knowledge to optimise ultrasound scanning.
