| DESCRIPTION | Biblical inspiration has been at the fore of debates on the philosophical and theological levels. This study-unit will give an overview of these debates and their implications for theological studies in general, and Biblical studies in particular, with special focus on the extension of inspiration in the Bible, and its consequences for a correct interpretation of Scripture texts. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims at exploring a functional definition of inspiration and of its extension in the Bible. This will have practical implications on Biblical interpretation itself. Therefore, this study-unit aims at studying the function of the two phenomena of inspiration and interpretation of the Bible for theological studies. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - define Biblical inspiration from the philosophical perspective; - define Biblical inspiration from the theological perspective; - describe the extension of inspiration in Biblical texts; - summarize the teachings of the Church Magisterium on Biblical inspiration and interpretation; - discuss how both phenomena of inspiration and interpretation have their roots in the Bible itself; - articulate the various senses of the Biblical texts. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - describe the philosophical and theological phenomena of Biblical inspiration and interpretation; - formulate a working definition of inspiration and interpretation so as to propose Biblical theology as the foundation of the whole of theology.
