DESCRIPTION The study-unit looks at various techniques and media used in painting. Students will tackle the processes and techniques required to handle painting media and will be encouraged to explore ways of communicating through painting.

Study-Unit Aims:

- Expose the Students to different painting media;
- Give students the required introductory skills to handle painting media and application techniques.
- Encourage experimentation in visual presentation of concepts.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify the different media and techniques used in painting;
- characterize the paintings that can be created by different techniques;
- understand the technology behind the preparation of different painting media, and their application.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- prepare painting media for ubiquitous painting techniques, such as water-colour, acrylic, and oils
- use painting as a basic visual communication or presentation technique.
