DESCRIPTION AI Advantage is a practical, non-technical study-unit for students from every faculty who want to use current artificial intelligence tools more effectively in their studies and future careers. No programming knowledge or previous AI experience is required. Through guided workshops, participants will explore tools for research, documents, writing, presentations, visual content, meetings, planning and simple data analysis. Each session centres on realistic tasks that students can adapt to their own discipline, with emphasis on selecting the right tool, giving clear instructions, improving responses and combining AI assistance with human judgement.

Objectives:

By the end of the unit, participants will be able to:

1. Identify common types of AI tools and select an appropriate tool for a given task.
2. Give clear instructions by defining the purpose, context, audience, constraints and required format.
3. Use AI to support research, document work, professional communication, planning, presentations and simple data interpretation.
4. Compare, refine and combine AI-generated outputs rather than accepting the first response.
5. Create reusable prompts and practical workflows relevant to their intended profession.
6. Recognise when an output requires verification, expert advice or a human decision.

Unit Material:

Appropriate study-unit material, guided exercises and reusable templates will be provided by the tutor during the sessions. Students should bring a laptop or tablet that can connect to Wi-Fi. Where possible, activities will use approved or freely accessible tools.

Session 1: Your AI toolkit. Explore the main categories of AI tools and complete a selection of useful everyday tasks.
Session 2: Getting better results. Improve prompts by adding context, examples, constraints, audience and output format.
Session 3: Research and documents. Search for information, summarise material, compare documents and extract key actions.
Session 4: Writing and professional communication. Draft and improve emails, reports, briefs and messages for different audiences.
Session 5: Planning, meetings and project support. Create plans, agendas, minutes, action lists, timelines and progress updates.
Session 6: Presentations and visual content. Develop presentation structures, slide content, speaking notes and visual concepts.
Session 7: Tables and data without coding. Ask questions about simple datasets, identify patterns and produce clear summaries.
Session 8: Build your professional AI workflow. Combine suitable tools into a repeatable process for a task from the participant's own field.
