DESCRIPTION The study-unit offers already certified for solar thermal systems, the opportunity to renew their certification for a further period of five years. The study-unit consists of lectures on specific topics where advancement have been made within the previous period. Such changes or updates will cover the areas of legislation and standards, new solar thermal technologies, key elements of best-practice installations, any new special requirements for small and centralised solar thermal installations. The lectures will also encourage students to share their experience during their professional work and provide solutions to any difficulties or doubts that may have been encountered in practice.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To update certified solar installers with the latest developments in legislation and technology.
- To stress certain important aspects of best-practice installations.
- To provide an opportunity for sharing of experiences and solving common installation problems.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand the most up-to-date EU and local legislation pertaining to renewable energies and in particular to solar thermal technologies.
- List new technologies in the area of solar thermal systems for water and space heating, and their associated mechanical components.
- Deepen the knowledge on solving certain challenges that may have been encountered during the professional work phase of the certified installers.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Correctly interpret EU directives and local legislation pertaining to renewable and solar energies.
- Choose the right technology of solar thermal systems for a particular site and condition.
