Q1: How do I apply?

Q2: What is the duration of this course?

A2: If taken on a full-time basis, this course spans over 12 months while if it is taken on a part time (day) basis, this course spans over 36 months.

 

Q3: What qualifications do I need to enrol in this course?

A3: Please refer to the list of qualifications specified in the course byelaws in this link. International students would also need to satisfy specific English language qualifications and may be subject to an interview.

 

Q4: What is the language of instruction at UM?

Q5: As an international student, who can I contact should I have any queries regarding my eligibility for this course?

A5: You are encouraged to read these instructions regarding the submission of your application. For further information, kindly contact the Student Recruitment Office (email: intadmissions@um.edu.mt).

 

Q6: What resources would I need to follow the course online?

A6: You will be expected to have a computer capable of running Matlab and Python scripts. Once enrolled as students at the University of Malta, you will be eligible to access Matlab through the UM campus license. Computing resources will be made available to you via remote access to the lab computers. 

 

Q7: What mode of communication will be used during the course?

A7: The course will be delivered through the UM virtual learning environment (VLE). This will give you access to your study materials 24/7, This will include all lecture materials (lecture podcasts, written content, assignments etc), forum discussions and the course café to chat with your fellow students. For one-to-one communication, lecturers and support staff can be reached via email. 

 

Q8: How will the units be assessed?

A8: You will be assessed through a series of assignments, which include forum discussions as well as individual assessments. These will be clearly explained for each study unit, alongside a detailed rubric outlining how the units will be assessed. All assignments will be given with ample time to complete, and all submissions will be through the VLE. Feedback and your provisional grade will be available to you.

 

Q9: What will the online learning experience be like?s

A9: Your learning experience will be fully supported by dedicated lecturing, technical and administrative support staff. Your learning will also be supported by high-quality learning materials and resources. You will be able to book appointments for on-line meetings with the study-unit tutors during their office hours which will be indicated on VLE. You will also be supported by the health-and-wellness centre at the University of Malta. To support the community of students, you will also have access to the course café – an informal platform to connect with your peers.

On average, your learning experience will involve directed learning that is, participation in tutor-led lectures and discussions, self-directed learning that is, wider reading and own study on the subject at hand, and assessment, that is, time spent preparing and completing assignments. Typically, you will be required to dedicate 25 hours of work per ECTS, thus, for a 5 ECTS unit, you would dedicate 125 hours of work.

 

Q10: What are the tuition fees?

A10: Tuition fees are €9,000 for international students outside of the EU/EEA. Tuition fees are capped at €4,500 for students within EU/EEA countries.
