Cyprian Broodbank

The Island Legacies Conference is pleased to host Professor Cyprian Broodbank, Disney Professor of Archaeology, and Director of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom.

Professor Broodbank is one of the foremost global experts in Mediterranean prehistory and archaeology. Among many seminal publications, he is the author of An Island Archaeology of the Early Cyclades (Cambridge University Press, 2001), for which he was awarded James R. Wiseman Book Award by the Archaeological Institute of America and the 2001 Runciman Award by the Anglo-Hellenic League. He is also the author of The Making of the Middle Sea: A History of the Mediterranean from the Beginning to the Emergence of the Classical World (Thames and Hudson. 2013), that is widely considered to be an unprecedented work of scholarship and a landmark publication. This work won the Wolfson History Prize. 

Professor Broodbank’s contributions to academia have also been recognised through his elected memberships to scholarly societies. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA) and a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA). 

Finally, Professor Broodbank has a long connection with the Maltese Islands and its prehistory and taught for many years at the University of Malta as a guest lecturer.
