Welcome to the Department of Podiatry

The Department of Podiatry within the Faculty of Health Sciences offers undergraduate studies in the area of Podiatry. It is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and clinical experience to pursue their career as podiatrists and clinical researchers. The Department is responsible for providing both the theoretical and clinical training leading to the Degree in Podiatry.

The aim of the Department is to provide students with the best possible teaching programme in order to instill in them a sound theoretical and practical background to Podiatry as well as to provide them with the necessary skills which would enable them to contribute towards Malta’s healthcare system. Our graduates are equipped with professional and transferable skills to enable them to enter into their chosen career as confident and competent professionals. Most graduates move into clinical practice, the majority work inside the Department of Health but some go straight into private practice. Graduates may choose careers in research, education and industry, both in Malta and overseas.

This degree programme is delivered by enthusiastic and talented members of staff within the University of Malta and the Department of Health who are specialized in their areas of interest. The professionalism and dedication of the academic staff is the most fundamental and crucial element that has contributed to the Department’s success. Members of staff within the department are actively involved in research and are continuously publishing in leading podiatric and medical journals and regularly participate in international conferences. The fields of interest of the Department include, amongst others, clinical biomechanics, diabetes, geriatrics, organizational management and change.

The Department also enjoys international collaborations with other schools of podiatry and a number of external lecturers are regularly invited to deliver modules in specialised areas such as podiatric surgery and podiatric podo-paediatrics in order to enrich the course programme.
