Casual Part-time Posts for Mentored Study Classes (Preparatory Classes) – SEC Level in English Language or Mathematics or Maltese
Junior College

 

The mission of the Junior College is to provide a high quality, inclusive and holistic learning experience intended to enhance the knowledge and lifelong skills needed for higher education, active citizenship, employment and life itself.

 

Mentored Study Classes:

Junior College students missing any of the core subjects (English Language, Maltese, Mathematics) which are required for entry to the University of Malta, will be assisted to prepare for the relevant SEC examinations through mentored study classes offered by the Junior College.

The mentored study classes at the Junior College shall normally be given in a format conducive to this kind of learning.  Sessions will be held in person, but online delivery is not excluded if required.

The sessions will be based on SEC syllabi and revolve around the practice of past-paper work.

 

The appointee is expected to:

  • Be in possession of a relevant first-degree or other relevant teaching qualification in the subject they are applying for. Other qualifications and teaching experience are considered an asset;
  • Deliver teaching sessions as assigned by the Administration;
  • Be digital-literate as sessions may be delivered online as assigned by the Administration;
  • Be able to teach the Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) Level of the relevant subject;
  • Support students by providing the necessary learning material using the relevant online platforms of Junior College;
  • Prepare and update course material in line with the syllabus;
  • Assess students continuously within established time-frames;
  • Evaluate the yearly SEC English Language or Mathematics or Maltese examination reports and provide feedback to the College Administration;
  • Keep record of own work, of attendance and assessment of students and forward such information to the College Administration as requested;
  • Manage classes in accordance with ethical standards and the students’ code of behaviour;
  • Help students in their holistic educational development to enable each to achieve their potential;
  • Liaise with the respective Subject and Area Coordinators.

 

Casual part-time staff are required to deliver these mentored study classes. The pool of staff may be composed of retired teachers, current secondary and post-secondary school teachers and post-graduate student tutors. Other suitably qualified candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The formal teaching duties shall be carried out between 08:00 and 17:00 from Monday to Friday according to timetable slots. Availabilities can be discussed at a later stage.

 

Remuneration

The remuneration is €40 per hour.
