Archives & Rare Books

The Library at UM houses an important range of literary manuscripts, historical papers, and archival records of the University of Malta since 1800, as well as a collection of rare books.

The archival records at UM present a wealth of information of a biographical, socio-political and educational value. Among the manuscript collection the more important items include papers of the 19th century educationalist Paolo Pullicino, the Bonavita collection, and papers by Maltese literary figures such as the National Poet Dun Karm Psaila, Laurent Ropa, Ġużè Aquilina, Francis Ebejer, Giovanni Curmi, Ninu Cremona, and Rosar Briffa.

Catalogue cards for the manuscripts and rare books purchased prior to May 1992 are filed in separate drawers in the Melitensia card catalogue. To retrieve information about material acquired after May 1992 access HyDi.

Patrons are kindly requested to book the research room in advance on archives.lib@um.edu.mt or phone 2340 3057.
