As we approach the start of another academic year, please find some information related to the VLE.
2021/22 study-unit areas are now available
You can start preparing the 2021/22 study-unit areas in the UM VLE.
To access the VLE:
1. Visit the University of Malta homepage.
2. Click the Staff drop-down menu (upper left-hand corner).
3. Select VLE.
IMPORTANT: If the VLE contains study-units for 2021/22 that you will not be teaching, or there are missing study-units, please contact your Faculty Office so that the records can be updated.
Preparing 2021/22 study-unit areas
Use the VLE Copy Tool to copy learning resources / activities from study-units of previous years to 2021/22 study-units.
Note that although the Lecture Capture (Panopto) activities will be copied, the Panopto recordings will not be copied via the VLE Copy Tool. To copy and move Panopto recordings, refer to the Copying and moving recordings [PDF] guide.
You may also use the Import [PDF] feature instead of the VLE Copy Tool. This can be used if you need to copy just selections of the previous years’ study-units. An advantage of the Import feature is that this will merge material rather than overwrite material already available in the destination area.
As you prepare your study-unit areas, we encourage you to refer to:
a. the VLE minimum standards page recommending the typical content that should be included in any study-unit area
in the VLE
The VLE has been upgraded to Moodle 3.9.7. This upgrade is relatively modest in scope and there are no major changes to the current layout and functionality of the VLE. It features bug fixes, enhancements and new features that improve the VLE user experience.
In the coming weeks, IT Services will be running various VLE-related workshops. Registration and more information about these workshops will be communicated in due course.
You may also refer to our VLE user guides, including quick reference guides to get started with the VLE.
We also offer one-on-one consultations for staff who would like to discuss enhancements to their study-units using features of the VLE and other learning technologies.

In December 2021, the study-unit areas for 2020/21 will be archived but these will remain accessible to both tutors and students for revision purposes, etc. More information about the VLE archiving policy is available.
