Overview

The aim of the workshop is to enable academic staff to familiarise themselves with the process of providing access arrangements for students with physical, sensory or mental impairments; medical conditions; or specific learning difficulties. It will also cover the work carried out by the Access Disability Support Committee (ADSC) and Access Disability Support Unit (ADSU) in providing these access arrangements and supporting students with disabilities. Information about the way in which the ADSU liaises with other sections within UM and discusses with academic staff will also be given. The workshop will include a session for participants to be able to raise queries and for the issues raised to be discussed.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will

  • identify the services provided by the ADSU in supporting students with disabilities.
  • describe the access arrangements provided and how they are implemented.
  • identify ways in which they can reach out for advice in supporting their students with disabilities.
