This seminar provides academics with essential insights and practical strategies to successfully navigate the tenure process. Geared towards academics seeking to achieve tenure, this seminar aims to unpack the tenure track process, offering guidance on the critical elements of teaching, research, and service.

These topics will be covered:

  • Understanding the tenure process and its utility;
  • Stages of the tenure process;
  • Criteria and expectations for award of tenure;
  • Roles and responsibilities;
  • Preparation of the Tenure Application; and
  • Tips and strategies to successfully navigate the tenure process

Learning outcomes

By the end of the seminar, participants will

  • understand the overall tenure process, its purpose, and how it fits within the academic career trajectory.
  • identify the various stages of the tenure process and what is expected at each stage.
  • identify the criteria and standards used to evaluate tenure applications, including teaching, research, and service contributions.
  • know the roles and responsibilities of tenure track academics, Heads of Department, Dean/Directors, Office for Human Resources Management & Development and the Tenure Review Board.
  • identify the requirements of the Tenure Application.
