Dr Ernest Azzopardi is the recipient of the Hunterian, Syme, Edwards and BAPRAS President’s Medals, the Royal College of England’s Hunterian Professorship, the Jackson, Unilever, BAAPS, TSS awards, past -recipient of the Price-Thomas, BAAPS, Laserplast and UK TIG superspecialist fellowship awards. He is an internationally recognised key opinion leader in this field of reconstructive plastic surgery. After completing his PhD with no correction in 2012, in parallel to full time surgical training, he also pursued full time tenure-track academic training at leading UK institutions. Ernest was born in Qrendi, Malta and attended St Aloysious' College in B'kara before embarking on his medical career.

After completing consultant training, Dr Ernest Azzopardi pursued prestigious UK-GMC approved fellowships in Swansea, London, Milan and further afield. His extensive experience in the field is coupled with publication of key texts and scientific papers. His works have contributed to policy and are cited by UK NHS, the UK National Institute for Clinical Excellence and the US military. He is actively involved in cutting edge research as Chief Investigator and Principal Investigator in several clinical studies.

Dr Azzopardi places high value on teaching future generations and is extensively involved in teaching and training throughout Europe, UK and beyond through affiliations with leading institutions including University College London, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and of course his Alma Mater, the University of Malta. He remains committed to teaching the next generation of clinicians and paying forward the skill and education he was fortunate to receive. Dr Azzopardi successfully developed and deployed virtual reality and augmented reality lectures to complement dissection theater teaching when covid 19 restrictions were in place.

Further afield, Dr Azzopardi is busy pushing the boundaries of science through an extensive research network, or advising Industry. He is incumbent Editorial board member of a Nature Publishing Group Journal.
