Mr Hilary Spiteri is Senior Lecturer in Systems of Knowledge at the University of Malta, Junior College. Before joining the Junior College, he spent twenty years in post-secondary education as an art and art history teacher, while also holding senior administrative positions.
He is currently reading for his Ph.D. at Utrecht University, where his research focuses on nineteenth-century Maltese art and art education under British colonial rule, particularly the introduction of the South Kensington system to the island. This interest dates back to his book Academic Artistic Training in early British Malta (2011). His other publications include the exhibition catalogue Celebrating Antoine Camilleri (1922-2005) (2015), Filial Churches in Malta - Qormi: A Case Study (2016), and, most recently, Vincenzo Labini (1735-1807): Bitonto, Naples and Malta (2026) (co-authored).
An author and documentary presenter, Mr Spiteri has long contributed to Malta's cultural life through scholarly publications, television documentaries, curatorial projects, and journalism.
