Jordan Mifsud is a Biology Lecturer at the University of Malta’s Junior College, with an interdisciplinary background in biology education, bioinformatics, and biomedical science. He holds a Bachelor of Education (Science Education – Biology) from the University of Malta, awarded in 2012 and a Master of Science in Bioinformatics, completed in 2025. Since September 2025, Jordan has served as a Biology Lecturer at the University of Malta Junior College, where he teaches biology at post-secondary level. He has extensive experience in biology education, with a particular interest in advanced biology, scientific reasoning, and the communication of complex biological concepts. Jordan has experience working as a Research Support Officer II in the Department of Applied Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta. His research focuses on RNA biology, RNA editing, and immune function. His MSc research investigated RNA editing in human primary monocytes during community-acquired pneumonia, using high-throughput RNA sequencing and computational analysis to examine changes in RNA editing associated with acute illness and recovery. This work provided a foundation for his current research interests in transcriptomics, RNA modification, and immune dysfunction. Jordan was involved in Project READS (Revealing RNA Editing as a Mechanism of Age-related Immune Senescence and Immune Dysfunction in Sepsis), which investigated the potential role of RNA editing in age-related immune dysfunction and sepsis. His research interests include RNA editing, ADAR- and APOBEC-mediated RNA modification, transcriptomic analysis, computational biology, bioinformatics, immunology, and statistical approaches to biomedical research. His academic interests lie at the intersection of biology education and biomedical research, with a particular interest in translating advances in contemporary biological research into rigorous and accessible teaching at advanced levels.
