Dr Gatt is a maritime archaeologist specialising in ancient submerged coastal heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean. She holds a joint PhD from Aix-Marseille University and the University of Cyprus, supported by the Honor Frost Foundation, where her research focused on the construction techniques of Classical and Hellenistic harbour structures.

She is also a certified scientific diver and has participated in international research projects and field surveys, as an active member, both on land and underwater, in Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, and Malta.
