Before joining the University of Malta’s Department of Artificial Intelligence, Dr Makantasis has been a post-doctoral researcher at the Technical University of Crete (Greece), at the KIOS Centre of Excellence (Cyprus), and the Institute of Digital Games, University of Malta. He has been twice an Early Stage Researcher - Marie Curie Fellow (4D0CH-World MSCA IAPP project). In 2020 he was awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (Widening) grant.

Dr Makantasis’ research interests focus on the crossroads of Machine and Statistical Learning, Image and Signal Processing, and Computer Vision for developing state-of-the-art methodologies and cutting-edge technologies in data analytics and decision making.
