Dr Michael Briguglio has a Doctorate in Sociology and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta, within the Department of Sociology. His main research interests are social movements, politics, protest, civil society, environment, maritime, social policy, and small states. He has published several scholarly contributions on these topics.

Dr Michael Briguglio is one of the founders of the Malta Sociological Association where he currently serves as Public Relations Officer; and is also a member of the following scholarly associations: European Sociological Association, International Sociological Association, Association for the Study of Protest and Social Movements, Political Studies Association, International Association for Impact Assessment and International Political Science Association.

Dr. Briguglio is a board member of Research Network 25 - Social Movements of the European Sociological Association, and a convenor of the Works in Progress Seminar Series at the University of Malta and an op-ed columnist with The Malta Independent.
