Dr Peter Albert Xuereb was educated at St Aloysius College in Malta. Supported by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Award, he graduated with First Class Honours in Computer Science from Imperial College London in 1986. In 1997, as a recipient of the British Chevening Scholarship, he obtained an MPhil in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge. He subsequently returned to the University of Cambridge where, supported by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust (CCT) and Overseas Research Students (ORS) Awards, he read for a PhD in Information Systems, which he was awarded in 2008.

Dr Xuereb’s professional career found him working in Computer Aided Design, IT Consultancy, Voice Recognition, Software Project Management, Software Quality Management, and General Management; in positions as diverse as Technical Support Engineer, Research & Development Engineer, IT Projects Manager, Quality Manager, EMEA Sales Manager, Technical Director and Chief Officer; and for organisations that included the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), Geneva; Hewlett-Packard (HP) GmbH, Stuttgart; Netdecisions, Cambridge; Dassault Systèmes Spatial GmbH, Saarbrücken; and the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA), Malta.

In 2012, Dr Xuereb began as Lecturer in the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta, and has since been promoted to Senior Lecturer. He has taught Logic Programming, Enterprise Resource Planning, Cloud Computing, e-Business, Emerging Technologies and Computer Ethics. His research interests include Augmented Reality, Business Intelligence, Computer Aided Design, e-Government, Intelligent Transport Systems, Voice Recognition, and the application of computer technologies to the fields of medicine and public health, education and disability.
