Trevor Borg is a multi-disciplinary artist, curator and researcher. Following a Diploma in Art and Design he read for a BA (Hons) and an MA at the University of Malta. After being awarded a Malta Government Scholarship, he completed a practice-based PhD in Fine Arts at the University of Leeds, UK. He is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of Department of Digital Arts at the University of Malta.
Borg’s work spans a wide range of media from drawing to painting, sculpture, film and installations. Borg has been chosen to represent Malta at the Venice Biennale (2019), Italy; London Design Biennale (2023), UK; and the Malta Biennale (2024), Valletta. He was invited to exhibit his work in the European Pavilion at the Beijing International Art Biennale (2022), China.
Borg’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally including Spazju Kreattiv, Manoel Theatre, and the National Library, Valletta, Malta; Künstlerhaus, Vienna, and Villa Claudia, Feldkirch, Austria; MKM Museum Küppersmühle, Duisburg, Kunsthalle, Mannheim, and NRW-Forum, Dusseldorf, Germany; Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Oostende, and the European Parliament, Brussels, Belgium; Museu Arxiu de Montblanc, Spain; The University of Leeds, The Tetley Gallery, Leeds, and the Sheffield Institute of Arts, UK; Stadsschouwburg De Harmonie, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands; Galleria Biffi, Piacenza, Italy, and the Old Oil Mill, Kalavasos, Cyprus.
Borg’s work has been featured in local and major international art and design publications. He has published his work in peer-reviewed journals and books and has contributed to various exhibition catalogues. Borg has curated various exhibitions including Contemporary Inside 18 and Shifting Contexts I, II and III.
As part of Open Square Collective he received the Best International Achievement Award and was commissioned to produce work for Valletta 2018 and Inizjamed’s Poetry on Film, Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival. Borg is a member of the creative practice-led research network LAND2, UK, and an associate at Cut Contemporary Fine Arts Lab at Cyprus University of Technology.
