The WaveGuard project, funded through the INTERREG VI-A Italia-Malta Programme and co-financed by the European Union, aims to enhance monitoring of the coastal areas around the Maltese Islands and in the Channel between Malta and Sicily, in order to facilitate a more efficient disaster response in the event of extreme meteo-marine conditions. The monitoring network was set up in previous projects, such as the CALYPSO series of projects, NEWS, SIMIT THARSY and i-waveNET.
