The Department of Disability Studies proudly marked its 10th anniversary with a celebration on 17th February 2025. The event brought together academics, past and present students, and disability rights activists to mark a decade of research and teaching carried out by the department. The event featured a keynote speech by Prof. Angharad Beckett from the University of Leeds. During the event speeches were also given by Rector Prof. Alfred Vella, by the Dean of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing Dr Sandra Scicluna, the current Head of Department Dr Amy Camilleri Zahra, the first Head of Department Dr Vickie Gauci, and the department's first administrator Ms Charlene Fabri. Concluding remarks were made by Prof. Andrew Azzopardi. The event also featured a panel discussion chaired by Prof. Anne-Marie Callus. The panel was made up of past and present students who discussed the impact that their studies have had on their lives and careers.
The atmosphere was one of celebration and reflection, reinforcing the department's commitment to research and teaching about how to foster an inclusive society.
