Micro-credentials

The Department of Disability Studies offers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in a bid to expose students and future professionals to the challenges faced by disabled people in all walks of life.

We do this from both a theoretical and experiential perspective by involving disabled people to deliver the lectures.

Please read carefully the following study-unit descriptions:

DBS1004 - Disability Issues in Practice

This study-unit will provide students with an introduction to the main issues that disabled people face in their daily lives, with an opportunity to discuss these issues from different perspectives and examine how they are dealt with in the relevant literature. Different aspects of life will be dealt with, including health services, education, employment, leisure pursuits, relationships, as well as the social model of disability and the use of language when speaking about disabled people.

DBS2004 - Sexuality and Disability

The study-unit aims to give students a general grounding in the context of disability and sexuality. Socio-cultural influences and attitudes towards the sexuality of persons with disability will be out at the fore. Policies, conventions and legislations related to the sexuality of persons with disability will be explored to substantiate the topic.
