About us

About us

Welcome to the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law.

Vision
Our department seeks to approach and present Pastoral Theology as an interdisciplinary area in continuous dialogue with the human and social sciences.

Aim
The goal of teaching and research in our department is threefold:
  • to provide insight into the basics of ecclesial action and ministry
  • to assist students in the art of reading and responding to the signs of the times and
  • to equip pastoral ministers and others working in/with Church related agencies with those skills and competences needed in practical everyday life situations.

Expertise
The various research specialisations and interests of our members of staff is our strength. Pastoral Theology, Liturgy, Pastoral Counselling, Catechetics, Religious Education, and Canon Law form the core teaching areas within our department. We service several departments within the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Laws and the Faculty of Social Wellbeing.
