From Monday 17 to Sunday 23 November 2008, millions of young people in over 77 countries around the world celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) for the first time ever. This event was designed to connect aspiring and inspiring entrepreneurs, helping them embrace originality, imagination and ingenuity through local and global activities.

The Edward de Bono Institute has proudly been the official National Host for this event in Malta since 2008 and collaborates each year with various partner organisations to put together exciting programmes of activities to join this global celebration of entrepreneurship. In Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2008, various events were organised by The Edward de Bono Institute, Malta University Consulting and Ernst& Young (Malta). 

Entrepreneurship Training 

Friday 21 November 2008 - Organised by The Edward de Bono Institute in collaboration with Malta University Consulting and Ernst & Young (Malta)

Young entrepreneurs were invited to submit an original idea for a new enterprise in order to take part in a training workshop focusing on skills that are essential in today's competitive environment and have the opportunity to network with key people in Malta. Dr Elizabeth Read, an expert on entrepreneurship training from the UK conducted this one-day interactive workshop. 

Speed Networking

Saturday 22 November 2008 - Organised by The Edward de Bono Institute in collaboration with Malta University Consulting and Ernst & Young (Malta)

The young entrepreneurs that successfully completed the Entrepreneurship Training on Friday 21 November 2008 were invited to network with established local entrepreneurs who were invited to this event. Each participant was allowed 3 minutes to 'pitch' themselves and to exchange ideas with each of the successful entrepreneurs invited for this event. This provided an opportunity for potential entrepreneurs to meet and learn from successful entrepreneurs and to form new collaborative projects. 

Conference on Entrepreneurship - The Meeting of Minds 

Saturday 22 November 2008 - Organised by The Edward de Bono Institute in collaboration with Malta University Consulting and Ernst & Young (Malta)

This conference was organised to discuss the importance of both entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. It was a unique opportunity for potential entrepreneurs to recognize the importance of skills which are necessary to deal with competitivety in today's global scenario. During the conference, various opportunities for interaction, networking, collaboration, and exchange of ideas was encouraged. Successful local entrepreneurs presented their views on the future of entrepreneurship in Malta. Two keynote speakers, Dr. Elizabeth Read (Royal Academy of Engineering, London) and Mr Richard Singer (Ernst & Young, Czech Republic) addressed the conference.
