World Creativity and Innovation Week Logo

Between the 19 and the 24 April 2017, The Edward de Bono Institute hosted and/or participated in the following of activities to celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Week (WCIW): 

19 April 2017: Creativity Festival at Mater Dei Hospital - Dr Margaret Mangion organized a Creativity Festival for patients at the Paediatric Wards at Mater Dei Hospital, namely Disneyland, Wonderland and Fairyland. A variety of activities including painting, jewellery making, card making, story-telling and a workshop about story writing were offered to the children. The Creativity Festival came to an end with performances from two choirs namely Stagecoach and the Ministry of Music. The festival was made possible with the support of the Paulo Freire Institute, Twinkle Tots Craft Café, Natalie Portelli and Cheer Amigos and Corporate Gifts Malta and Bricks 4 Kids Malta. Supporting the Edward de Bono Institute on this activity were also a number of students and volunteers who dedicated their free time to this event. This event was organised in collaboration with the management and staff of the Mater Dei Hospital.

22 April 2017: Science in the Citadel, Gozo - The Institute participated in Science in the Citadel, Gozo. This was a one-day Science extravaganza, which was aimed to get people talking about science through fun and stimulating activities. It was a good opportunity for the Institute to publicise the part-time Diploma in Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship which was offered at the University Gozo Campus in October 2017. The stand, which was named ‘Discover Your Creative Potential’ attracted adults and children alike. Visitors had the opportunity to take part in fun brain training activities. Dr Margaret Mangion, Ms Shirley Pulis Xerxen, and Institute students Jean Karl Micallef Grimaud and Felix Zappe, were there in the morning, while Dr Leonie Baldacchino, Ms Daniela Azzopardi and students Marita Portelli and Jeroen Peter Bakker were there in the afternoon.

Monday 24th April: Award Ceremony – The Social Innovation Challenge: Enable and Engage - The WCIW events in Malta were concluded with the award ceremony of the Social Innovation Challenge: Enable and Engage, a competition that was launched during WCIW 2016 with the aim of encouraging members of the public to propose ideas to improve the quality of life of persons with disability and the elderly. This competition was held in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing with the support of MAPFRE Middlesea and MSV Life. The winner of the competition was Dr John Mary Farrugia who came up with an innovative mobile phone design to assist the elderly in their daily life.
