A vacancy currently exists in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the post of Laboratory Officer, with qualifications / background in electrical and electronics engineering. The appointee will be required to assist in the upkeep of laboratories, and assist in the preparation and holding of practical laboratory sessions in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and as may be required by the University. In particular, he/she will be responsible for all technical support related to the Robotic Systems Laboratory within the department. This requires the selected candidate to take responsibility and show initiative in the running, maintenance and upgrading of this University facility that is extensively used for teaching and research, and to perform other duties as may be required by the University.

 

Eligibility

The position of Laboratory Officer requires the post holder to be in possession of:

  • A University degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (MQF Level 6 – minimum 180ECTS); OR
  • Higher Diploma (MQF Level 5) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualifications; OR
  • One (1) ‘A’ level (in a related subject) and five (5) ‘O’ Level passes together with four (4) years of experience in an electrical/electronic laboratory environment;

 

Applicants should have good motivational skills and the ability to work under limited supervision, the ability to work in a team, and a good level of spoken and written English and Maltese.

Experience in a robotics and/or mechatronics laboratory environment will be considered an asset.

 

Salary Details
          

The salary attached to the post for 2026 is €24,716, rising by annual increments of €400 up to a maximum of €27,516. On completion of four years of service in this grade, the appointee will be entitled to move on to the next salary band with annual increments of €440 up to a maximum of €29,373. After a further period of two years, the appointee will, on satisfactory performance, be entitled to move on to the next salary band with annual increments of €450 up to a maximum of €33,381. After a further period of two years, the appointee will, on satisfactory performance, be entitled to move on to the next salary band with annual increments of €500 up to a maximum of €33,494, on satisfactory performance.
