The University of Malta is seeking to employ one Senior IT Executive within IT Services to provide operational leadership within the Technical Services team.

The post is for a definite period of four years, with the possibility of renewal.

 

Eligibility

Applicants should be in possession of an IT-related degree qualification and 5 years of work experience in a senior technical/senior management role.

Experience within a higher education institution will be considered an asset.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Interpersonal, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing IT infrastructure operational services.
  • Excellent knowledge of IT service area/s with a proven track record in developing, provisioning and supporting IT services.
  • Substantial experience in staff management.
  • Project management and organisational skills.
  • Communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders at all levels within and outside the University.
  • Reporting skills.

 

Salary and Benefits

Remuneration shall be commensurate with experience and qualifications and entitles the appointee to a performance bonus, allowances and other benefits according to responsibilities in line with the UM salary package for Senior IT Executive.

Further Information

IT Services manages the IT infrastructure of the University and offers a range of facilities and services to assist a community of over 20,000 staff and students with their IT-related needs. IT Services also provides administrative and technical support to the .mt domain registry and manages the Maltese National Research & Education Network (NREN) providing access to the GÉANT network to local research and education institutions. The Technical Services team directly manages, secures, and maintains the University's IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, and network services, safeguarding information security while ensuring maximum system availability and performance.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship to the team with a focus on technical growth and skill development.
  • Ensure availability, optimum performance, reliability and integrity of all information systems under the responsibility of the Technical Services team.
  • Lead significant University IT-related initiatives and projects.
  • Lead and provide appropriate and effective line management to reporting IT Services teams and staff as may be required.
  • Deputise for the Head of Services as required.
  • Any other duties as may be required by the Head of Services, Deputy Director, or Director of IT Services.

 

The appointee is expected to work:

  • on a full-time basis, and will not be allowed to engage in any other gainful employment without the permission of the Council; and
  • at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the University authorities.

 

The Selection Process

The selection procedure will involve:

  • The evaluation of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by
    • testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application);
    • certified translations of any non-English documents into English;
    • official documentation showing the qualifications’ EQF/MQF level or MQRIC equivalency certificate (https://mfhea.mt/).
  • Short-listing of candidates.
  • An invitation to short-listed candidates to a Selection Board interview.

  

The Selection Process

The selection process will follow the document “Guidelines for Members of Selection Boards in the Recruitment of Administrative, Technical and Industrial Staff” (https://www.um.edu.mt/hr/services/recruitment).

In accordance with the guidelines, members of the Selection Board will establish the following selection criteria for the selection process:

  • Relevant academic qualifications;
  • Relevant work experience;
  • Aptitude and suitability; and
  • Performance in interview.

 

The appointment will be subject to a probationary period of one year and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University of Malta which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
