Post of Teaching Associate or Senior Teaching Associate in Policing
Department of Criminology – Faculty for Social Wellbeing
Applications are invited for a full-time post of Teaching Associate or Senior Teaching Associate in the Department of Criminology, Faculty for Social Wellbeing of the University of Malta.
The appointment will be offered on an indefinite contract basis, subject to a probationary period of one year.
The appointee will be required to contribute to the administrative duties and teaching up to and including MQF Level 7, in the Department of Criminology within the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, and as may be required by the University.
Eligibility
Teaching Associate
Applicants will be required to possess a first degree (Level 6) in Administration, Private and Public Sector Management, Policing, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field, and a Master’s degree (Level 7) in Criminology, Policing, Criminal Justice, Security and Risk Management, Public Policy Leadership, or related disciplines. Furthermore, applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years relevant teaching and/or professional experience in policing or criminal justice. The applicant must have experience of working in the Malta Police Force. Experience in capacity-building and workforce development is also required.
Senior Teaching Associate
Applicants will be required to possess a first degree (Level 6) in Administration, Private and Public Sector Management, Policing, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field, and a Master’s degree (Level 7) in Criminology, Policing, Criminal Justice, Security and Risk Management, Public Policy Leadership, or related disciplines. Applicants must have a minimum of six (6) years relevant teaching and/or professional experience in policing or criminal justice. The applicant must have experience of working in the Malta Police Force. Experience in capacity-building and workforce development is also required.
Salary
The annual salary for 2026 attached to Teaching Associate and Senior Teaching Associate is as follows:
Teaching Associate; €41,365 plus Academic Work Resources of €2,146.00
Senior Teaching Associate; €45,962 plus Academic Work Resources of €2,146.00

General Working Obligations:
A Teaching Associate or Senior Teaching Associate will be appointed on a full-time (40) hour per week basis between Monday to Friday out of which no more than half shall be devoted to teaching.
A Teaching Associate or Senior Teaching Associate will be expected to work between 08:00 and 17:00 hours and beyond 17:00 hours no more than once per week.
The Department of Criminology
The Department of Criminology seeks to be a centre of excellence contributing to Maltese society through education, research, and engagement in criminal justice, policing, and social policy development. The Department offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in general and specialist areas of criminology, as well as various micro-credentials. The Department also supports an increasing number of research students at postgraduate and doctoral levels.
