The University of Malta has adopted Microsoft Power BI as a key tool for data management and analysis. This software has the potential to provide access to valuable analytics across different segments of university life and currently enables users to generate and explore various student metrics. Such data serves as an important resource for the Faculties, Institutes, Centres and Schools (FICS) by not only supporting reflection on programmes through the Annual Programme Review (APR) but also by offering valuable insights into programme performance, application trends, and graduation rates, to support other internal processes.
This training session highlights the wide range of benefits offered by Power BI, including its robust data visualisation, interactive reporting capabilities and user-friendly interface that empowers both technical and non-technical users. It will demonstrate how Power BI generated data can be utilised for strengthening evidence-based decision-making within the FICS and support programme evaluation and ultimately, continuous improvement across the UM. Through a hands-on, practical session, participants will learn how to effectively work with and interpret the dashboards and generate reports.
Participants will gain practical experience in navigating dashboards, interpreting data, and generating reports that can inform programme evaluation, Annual Programme Reviews (APR), and other internal processes. The session will also highlight recent updates to Power BI and demonstrate how its powerful data visualisation and reporting features can be applied to drive continuous improvement at UM.
This hands-on session is targeted for administrative members of staff who hold a Power BI licence and assist Boards of Studies and other academic staff in accessing and visualising student data at their respective FICS. For those who have already attended the initial training, this session will also serve as an opportunity to become familiar with recent updates on Power BI features and to encourage wider and more frequent use of this tool.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
