University of Malta adopted an Open Access Policy, ensuring that the future research created under the auspices of the UM will be made available in Open Access. The Policy was approved by the Senate on September 20, 2017.

The Open Science Department’s mission is to support the dissemination of the intellectual output, research and data produced by the University of Malta. This department is fully committed to promote Open Science and to support with the processing and uploading of research output on the UM’s Institutional Repository – OAR@UM.

The main objectives of the Open Science Department is to enhance awareness about the importance of making research available in Open Access and to provide support and advice on copyright clearance, licences, embargo periods, and any other issues pertaining to OA publishing.
