Objectives and Structure

1. A Professional Ethics Platform is being set up within the Faculty of Theology as a joint initiative between the Department of Moral Theology and the Department of Philosophy.
 
2. The aims of the Platform are the following:
 
(a) To promote the study of professional ethics at the University and outside as an integral component of professional practice.
 
(b) To offer study-units in cooperation with Faculties, Institutes and Centres in the teaching of professional ethics at the University, including supervision of dissertations in the area of professional ethics and related areas.
 
(c) To collaborate with local and foreign centres, programmes and individuals working in professional ethics for research purposes.
 
(d) To offer ethical advisory services, including ethical assessment reports, and to raise public awareness of issues related to professional ethics.
 
3. The Platform shall have the following structure:
 
(a) The Board shall consist of the Coordinator, as Chairman, and four other members, appointed by Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Theology, of whom two at least should be ethicists working at the University and one member whose primary interest is in a scientific area.        
 
(b) The Coordinator shall be a member of either the Department of Moral Theology or the Department of Philosophy.
 
(c) The appointment of the Coordinator and the members of the Board shall be for one year, which can be renewed.
 
4.  The Platform will operate as a cost centre, subject to the University's financial regulations.
