Anne Marie Thake graduated in B.A. (Hons). Public Administration from the University of Malta in 1990 and read for an M.Sc. in Human Resource Development from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1993. She read for her PhD in Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath, UK (http://www.bath.ac.uk/). Dr Thake had joined the University of Malta in 1994 and lectures in the Department of Public Policy within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy. In 2008, she became a full time Resident Academic within the Faculty.

Her main interests are in human resource development, employability, gender issues, public management and leadership affairs.

Since 1990, Dr Thake has worked for the Staff Development Organisation within the Office of the Prime Minister (1990-1994), was the Human Resource Manager at the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (1994-1996) and the Human Resource/Quality Manager for Alf. Mizzi and Sons (Marketing) Group (1996-1998).

In 1995 she was attached to the European Parliament - Directorate General for Research – Luxembourg (pre-accession) on issues related to performance management. Dr Thake has written HR documents and articles, was also instrumental in drafting a Human Resource Policy and Strategy for Malta (2003-2006) and putting forward proposals for Post-Secondary and Tertiary Education Government funding (2004)- known as the Chalmers' Report. She has also given HR services to Deloitte - an international audit, tax and financial advisory firm and BOV plc.

Dr Thake has trained employees coming from different sectors in HR skills and practised as a freelance Human Resource Professional. She has over twenty years experience in human resource management issues, including recruitment, performance management and developing employees in public, parastatal and private organisations.

Dr Thake has been appointed to serve on several national Boards namely the Commission to draft a Human Resource Policy and Strategy for Malta submitted to Jobsplus, the Commission for the Post-Secondary and Tertiary Education Government Funding, the Commonwealth and Fellowships Board and the Malta Government Scholarships Scheme Board.
