Kevin Schembri earned his undergraduate degrees and a licentiate in sacred theology with specialisation in pastoral ministry from the University of Malta. He then graduated with a licentiate and a doctorate in canon law with specialisation in canonical jurisprudence, from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 2017, his book-length monograph 'Oikonomia, Divorce and Remarriage in the Eastern Orthodox Tradition' appeared as volume 23 in Kanonika book series.
At present, he forms part of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law at the University of Malta and lectures in canon law at the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Laws. He is the coordinator of two Master of Arts programmes: in Family Ministry and in Matrimonial Canon Law and Jurisprudence.
Schembri is defender of the bond and promoter of justice at the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Malta. He is a Catholic priest and also serves as ecclesiastical assistant to the Society of Christian Doctrine in the same diocese.
