Kevin Schembri is Head of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law at the University of Malta, where he lectures in canon law and pastoral praxis. He also serves as Visiting Lecturer at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, teaching within the Faculty of Eastern Canon Law at the Pontifical Oriental Institute.
He studied philosophy and theology (SThB) at the University of Malta and obtained a licentiate (SThL) in pastoral theology. He subsequently completed both a licentiate (JCL) and a doctorate (JCD) in canon law and jurisprudence at the Pontifical Gregorian University. His monograph, Oikonomia, Divorce and Remarriage in the Eastern Orthodox Tradition, received the 2017 Emerging Scholar Book Prize from the European Society for Catholic Theology. He serves on the editorial board of Marriage, Family & Spirituality, a peer-reviewed journal based at KU Leuven.
Alongside his academic work, Schembri is a member of the Metropolitan Tribunal of Malta and of the Safeguarding Review Board of the Maltese Episcopal Conference. He is also regularly invited to lead workshops in various areas of pastoral ministry and to preach spiritual retreats.
