I coordinate the Practical Aspects of Family Law module in the Masters in Advocacy course with the Faculty of Laws and I have several lecturing engagements in police and correctional officer training with the Academy for Disciplined Forces (formerly k/a Police Academy). I am also the Malta Police's Research and Science Correspondent for CEPOL and serve on the OSCE board at the Academy that is preparing hate crime awareness training for police officers. I currently serve as an academic auditor with the National Commission for Further and Higher Education.

My previous lecturing commitments were with the Dept of Criminology where I lectured in police law, correctional law, criminal law, environmental justice, and media and crime. I also gave Data Protection workshops to Frontex border guards training in Malta in police cooperation issues. I was also appointed UoM MATSEC Advanced Level paper setter and marker in Geography for a number of years.

Prior to joining UoM I spent 13 years as an Inspector with the Malta Police, where I served in the district, Control Room, the Prosecution Unit upon obtaining my law doctorate and bar admission in 2005 and I was also in charge of the Data Protection Unit when Malta was preparing to join the Schengen zone. I helped set up the Community and Media Relations Unit of the Police in 1997, serving as its first Manager, based on my previous journalistic experience. I have represented the Police on racism and xenophobia issues in EU evaluations, and have trained new police recruits at constable and inspector level since 1991. I have received training from the Grampian Police in Aberdeen on School Liaison projects, and from the Metropolitan Police in hostage negotiation.

As a lawyer, I have practiced as a Child Advocate at the Family Court and have worked as a Defender of the Bond before the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Catholic Archdiocese of Malta in cases of marriage annulments. I also freelanced as a translator of legal texts with the EU and hold a Maltese language proofreader warrant obtained from the National Council of the Maltese Language.
