JPI Oceans Blue Carbon Ecosystems - with Xjenza Malta

JPI Oceans Blue Carbon Ecosystems - with Xjenza Malta

This call is part of a Joint Programming Initiative for healthy and productive seas and Oceans (JPI Oceans) and the national contact point is Xjenza Malta (XM).

The focus is on Blue Carbon Ecosystems and the call aims to bridge critical knowledge gaps in the understanding and management of these systems. Successful projects will advance scientific insights into carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes, providing the evidence needed to shape effective marine policy and management responses.

Funding: Maltese-based entities are eligible to apply for funds up to EUR 150,000 per project to join international consortia. Funding is designed to support participation in high-impact projects addressing one or more of the following priority areas:

  • Carbon Dynamics: Assessment of carbon stocks and fluxes at local/regional scales, including the mitigation impact of CO2 and non-CO2 gases like methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O).
  • Resilience & Vulnerability: Investigating how blue carbon ecosystems respond to climate change and anthropogenic pressures, such as eutrophication, dredging, and tourism.
  • Restoration & Protection: Evaluating the effectiveness and scalability of protection measures and Nature-based Solutions.

This is a single-stage call.

Please use this page as a guide and consult the Call text by JPI Oceans, as well as the National Rules (Non-State Aid) by Xjenza Malta for all the necessary details about the priorities for the call and the conditions of eligibility of Maltese entities in this funding scheme.
