This Certificate in Language Proficiency in Italian will cover the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, from the basic user (A1, A2) to the proficient one (C1, C2). The demand for Modern Language learning, in this case Italian, has lately increased. The certificate course in Italian is also in line with recent education policies on multilingualism to offer modern language courses at certificate and diploma levels.

To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations.

The Certificate Course may be taken concurrently with any University undergraduate or postgraduate course, whether followed on a full-time or part-time basis.

This course is open to University of Malta current students only - Information about the application process will be forwarded by the Faculty of Arts to students in due course.

The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in October 2021.

a) Subject Knowledge and Understanding

This is a programme designed for students from different academic backgrounds with an interest in Italian language and civilization. Students will benefit from the taught and practical components which allow them to acquire a basic to proficient knowledge of Italian, to read and create different typology of texts, to participate in conversations, and to become aware of cultural aspects of Italian, according to CEFR levels ranging from A1 to C2.

b) Intellectual Development

Students will be equipped with a wide knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and syntax, including useful stylistic nuances. They will be able to apply such knowledge in personal and professional contexts.

c) Key Transferable Skills

Students will appraise Italian culture and civilization in order to explore it further and to develop the necessary communicative competences in peer-group interaction. They will be trained to autonomously construct coherent texts that will enhance their reading and listening skills.
The Certificate in Language Proficiency in Italian is designed for students hailing from other Faculties and/or Departments wishing to learn a new language and be introduced to a new culture. It is addressed in particular to students learning Italian for communication and professional purposes.
The Certificate in Language Proficiency aims to enable students to learn Italian not only for communication purposes, but also within the framework of a career pathway as a useful, additional professional qualification.
