Amplifying the Library's Voice: Podcasting

Trainer: Professor Andrew Azzopardi, Professor
Target Audience: Library staff
Course Duration: 1 hour
Delivery Mode: Class-based

Libraries are no longer simply repositories of books but they are vibrant centres of learning, culture, research, and community engagement. Podcasting offers libraries an innovative way to extend their reach beyond their physical walls by sharing stories, promoting services, showcasing collections, interviewing authors and researchers, and engaging with diverse audiences.

This interactive one-hour workshop introduces library staff to the fundamentals of podcasting. Participants will learn how to develop a podcast concept aligned with their library's mission, plan engaging episodes, conduct effective interviews, use accessible recording and editing tools, and publish and promote podcasts across digital platforms.

No previous experience is required. The session is designed for librarians and information professionals who wish to enhance communication, outreach, and knowledge-sharing through the growing medium of podcasting.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate the value of podcasting as a tool for library outreach and engagement.
  • Identify audiences and develop podcast ideas that promote library services, collections, research, and community initiatives.
  • Understand the basics of publishing podcasts.
  • Identify practical strategies for promoting podcasts and building an audience.
  • Recognise some ethical, legal, and accessibility considerations in podcast production.
