Dr Gianpaolo Tomaselli is a Lecturer within the Department of Health Systems Management and Leadership at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta. Alongside his academic appointment, he serves as Assistant Director (Project Management) at Mater Dei Hospital, where his work encompasses project management, strategic planning and coordination, including the implementation and oversight of initiatives supported through national and European funding. His combined academic and professional experience enables him to integrate research, teaching and practice in healthcare management and health system development.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Administration and completed a Ph.D. in Economics and Management in Health Care at the Magna Græcia University of Catanzaro, Italy. His research interests include health systems management and leadership, healthcare operations management, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and resilience of health systems, stakeholder health and wellbeing, patient safety, and the governance and organisational implications of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in healthcare.

Dr Tomaselli is actively involved in European and international research and innovation projects. He currently serves as Principal Investigator for GREEN-CARE MED under the Interreg VI-A Italia–Malta Programme and contributes to Better Care, a Horizon Europe collaborative research project. His broader European project experience includes participation in Horizon Europe, Interreg, Erasmus+, COST Actions, European Regional Development Fund and European Social Fund initiatives, as well as EU-funded projects supporting healthcare infrastructure, technology, service improvement and health system resilience.

Dr Tomaselli has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, conference contributions, policy reports and scholarly book chapters. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Socially Responsible and Sustainable Healthcare (IJSRSH), published by IGI Global, and has edited scholarly volumes on healthcare management, sustainability and corporate social responsibility. He has also served as Guest Editor and Special Issue Coordinator for international journals published by MDPI and Frontiers in Public Health.

His work adopts an interdisciplinary approach connecting healthcare management, organisational research, policy and practice, with particular emphasis on translating research and international collaboration into practical improvements in healthcare organisations and health systems.
