Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are short, intensive programmes that use innovative ways of learning and teaching, including the use of online cooperation. The programmes may include challenge-based learning where transnational and transdisciplinary teams work together to tackle challenges, for example, those linked to the United Nations' sustainable development goals or other societal challenges identified by regions, cities or companies. The intensive programme should have added value compared to existing courses or training offered by the participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). By enabling new and more flexible mobility formats that combine physical mobility with a virtual part, BIPs aim at reaching all types of students from all backgrounds, study fields and cycles.

A BIP has to be developed and implemented by at least 3 HEIs coming from at least 3 EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme. The receiving HEI must be awarded the ECHE, and can be the same as or different from the coordinating HEI. The coordinating HEI must also be awarded an ECHE. To send participants, HEIs must have a signed Inter-Institutional Agreement with their partners before the mobility takes place.

BIPs can be part of the HEIs’ curricula or complementary to them. They can be an entirely new programme or an enhancement of an existing programme with additional features.

The physical component of BIPs must be between 5 and 30 days for learners. No eligibility criteria are set for the duration of the virtual component, but the combined virtual and physical components must award a minimum of 3 ECTS for students.

To be eligible, a BIP needs to involve a minimum of 10 Erasmus+ mobile learners (not including teaching/training staff involved in the delivery of the programme) not based in the organising country.

There are two main roles in the delivery of BIPs. These are:

  1. Organising a BIP
  2. Participating in a BIP coordinated by another partner HEI

For more information on each role, see the relevant section below. If you have any further queries, kindly contact the International Office.
