History of Art

Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty.

In this comprehensive course offered by the Department of Art and Art History, you will be equipped with the academic discipline of Art History and fully engage with the rich and wide-ranging narratives of European art, from Antiquity to the Contemporary. You will explore cultural, religious, social, and economic contexts; delve into critical, theoretical, and philosophical discussions; and study the techniques of various artists. Throughout the course, you'll develop skills in connoisseurship and gain a deeper understanding of artworks within their multifaceted contexts. You’ll benefit from the Department’s expertise in areas such as Medieval and Renaissance Art, Baroque Art, Architecture, Visual Culture, Decorative Arts, Nineteenth-Century Art, and Modern and Contemporary Art. The course is further enriched by an annual study tour to European cities and regular guest lectures from international scholars and academics on specialized topics. If you continue with your Honours, you will have the opportunity to carry out a research-based dissertation of your choice.

Theatre Studies

In the undergraduate programme of study in Theatre Studies, we will give you an academic perspective of the theoretical, practical and historical application of the theatre, and its versatile application in a broad range of performative manners. During the course we will instil you with a deep sense of awareness and appreciation of the interdisciplinary area and its contribution to society. We will also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a multicultural and diverse academic journey.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

History of Art

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Use your mastered skill-set of intricate observational and inductive analysis to interpret artistic works in its variety of manners.
Critically discuss artistic works in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary atmosphere.
Have a better understanding of the causal link between the practicality of art with society, history and culture on both a microcosmic and macrocosmic scale.
Demonstrate an understanding of different art works in a diversity of genres according to geographic locations, while also being able to distinguish the art work of different historical periods.
Recall important historic artists who have contributed to the movement and evolution of art.
Possess a visual awareness of contemporary art.

Theatre Studies

Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

Carry out research and write academic essays through your refined sense of critical thought about the performative arts.
Contribute to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary discussions through your unique knowledge of the subject matter.
Speak fluently about the history, practicality and practices of theatre in contemporary performances.
Display critical thought and knowledge through your independent work and production.
Use your refined awareness and eye for detail to discuss and interpret contemporary productions and performances.
