The VLE was upgraded to Moodle 4.5.12 during the Summer Recess (2026). This upgrade features bug fixes and some enhancements. There are no changes to the current layout and functionality of the VLE.

Google Gemini features are now accessible directly through the TinyMCE text editor in the VLE. This tool is available only for tutors, and makes it easier to generate text, such as when setting up labels, forum discussions and activity descriptions.
Note:
Tutors maintain sole responsibility for all study content and material added to their VLE study-unit areas. It is crucial to thoroughly verify any material generated by AI tools before sharing with students.
There are usage limits for the Google Gemini features. If you reach these limits, you will need to wait some time before you can use these again.
Turnitin have updated the terminology within the Store Student Papers setting to improve clarity:
Standard Repository is now called General Turnitin repository
Institutional Repository is now called Private institutional repository
Reminder: It is recommended to set the Store Student Papers setting as follows:
Draft activities: Select No repository (prevents drafts from flagging self-plagiarism on final submissions)
Final activities: Select Private institutional repository
The General Turnitin repository is typically not used, as this is a global repository containing student papers submitted to Turnitin worldwide.
Tutors can now input grades within Turnitin Feedback Studio [PDF][Intranet] for formative assessments. Note that it is highly recommended that you refrain from inputting grades for summative assessments, since all official grades must be processed and published exclusively via eSIMS. Displaying unofficial grades on the VLE can cause unnecessary confusion for students.
Additionally, please double check that the Feedback Release Date is set to a secure date in the future to prevent any accidental premature exposure of feedback. It is recommended to set the Feedback Release Date as follows:
Semester 1 study-unit assignments: End of March
Semester 2 / Year study-unit assignments: End of July
To ensure that notifications sent via VLE forums are actually sent out to students, a warning alert will now appear if tutors attempt to post in a forum within a VLE area that is currently hidden from students. This alert will make tutors immediately aware that such notifications will not be sent out to students, and provides instructions on how to make the VLE area visible before proceeding with the forum post.
