Prof. Nikolai Attard completed his B.Ch.D. Degree in 1997 at the University of Malta. He proceeded with his training in the field of Prosthodontics at the University of Toronto and obtained his M.Sc. Degree in 2001 and Ph.D. in 2004. His clinical experience in treating patients in the Prosthodontics speciality has catalyzed his research interests in the area. Indeed his research activities and publications have focused on oral health and rehabilitation of the edentulous patient. Specifically, the cost-effectiveness of clinical treatment and economics of edentulous patients seeking implant-supported prostheses were determined. Current research activities include the investigation of novel ways of improving current treatment methodologies and the establishment of an oral health profile of the Maltese population.
He has lectured internationally and in 2006 he received the Astra Tech Scientific Award. He is associate editor of the International Journal of Prosthodontics. Currently he is Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and Head of the Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care.
