Applications are invited for the post of Electrical Maintenance Officer in the Estates, Facilities and Capital Development Directorate with duties at the Junior College and as may be required by the University.

Eligibility

  • A Wireman Licence ‘A’, and preferably also in possession of Licence ‘B’;

Applicants not in possession of Licence ‘B’ will be considered subject to successful applicants undertaking to obtain licence ‘B’ within three (3) years and having successfully completed the BTEC National Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent qualifications.

The selected applicant although primarily based at the Msida Main Campus will need to report at the Junior College on at least two days during the week and to carry out electrical maintenance works at the Junior College as may be necessary.


Salary

The annual salary for 2024 is €21,741 rising by annual increments of €354 up to a maximum of €24219.  On completion of four years of service in this grade, the appointee will on satisfactory performance be entitled to move on to the next salary band with annual increments of €375 up to a maximum of €25,795. After a further period of three years of service in this grade, the appointee will on satisfactory performance be entitled to move on to the next salary band with an annual increment of €408 up to a maximum of €27,530.

Further Information

An Electrical Maintenance Officer usually performs the following duties:

  • Installs, dismantles, re-assembles, monitors, tests and repairs electrical machinery and apparatus;
  • Repairs and installs all kinds of small electrical instruments and equipment including time switches, floodlighting, ground lighting fittings and associated accessories and installations;
  • Tests and installs three-phase supply, high voltage and low voltage switchgear with relays as well as power and other transformers;
  • Carries out all kind of repairs, connections and joining, etc, in pipes, tanks, valves and other installations using different materials;
  • Laying of complete installations for the conveyance of water (hot, cold, waste), compressed air, and similar installations according to plans; 
  • Laying of new installation and upgrading installations as may be required at offices, lecture rooms, laboratories and workshops.
  • Laying of new data cable installations.
  • Carries out any other tasks which are assigned to him/her by the University Authorities

The appointee is expected to work:

  • on a full-time basis, and will not be allowed to engage in any other gainful employment without the permission of the Council; 
  • at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the University authorities.

Selection Process
  • The evaluation of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application).

  • An invitation to short-listed candidates to a Selection Board interview.

The appointment will be subject to a probationary period of six months to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
