This dual degree programme combines the faculties of two renowned educational institutions: George Mason's Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution School, the oldest and largest programme of graduate conflict studies in the United States, and the University of Malta's recently established Centre for the Study and Practice of Conflict Resolution (CSPCR), whose main interests are, inter alia, conflict resolution practices, the relationship between conflict and human rights, as well as justice and security.

If you successfully complete this course, you will earn two Masters' degrees:

  1. MSc Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University.
  2. MA Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security from the University of Malta.

    The programme provides an array of theoretical and practical tools, enabling you to carry on a systematic and ongoing study of the nature, origins, and types of conflicts, and develop the requisite processes and conditions for the productive resolution of conflicts.

    This dual degree program combines the faculties of two renowned educational institutions: George Mason's School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR), the oldest and largest programme of graduate conflict studies in the United States, and the University of Malta's newly established Centre for the Study and Practice of Conflict Resolution (CSPCR), whose main interests are , inter alia, conflict resolution practices, the relationship between conflict and human rights, as well as justice and security. S-CAR and CSPCR share teaching responsibilities in this program.

    By successfully completing this collaborative postgraduate programme, you will earn two Masters degrees:

    1. MSc Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University.
    2. MA Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security from the University of Malta.

    The programme aims to provide you with an array of theoretical and practical tools that will enable you to:

    1. Carry on a systematic and ongoing study of the nature, origins, and types of conflicts,
    2. Analyse the international relations and security scenarios of the Mediterranean region and in particular the nature, types and origins of the conflicts in this context,
    3. Develop the requisite processes and conditions for the productive resolution of conflicts,
    4. Apply the theories, skills, processes and techniques to empirical case-studies that will focus primarily on the Mediterranean.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security - M.A. - under the auspices of the Centre for the Study and Practice of Conflict Resolution (CSPCR).

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify and assess the value commitments that underpin the work of both conflict researchers and conflict resolution practitioners.
  • Assess the intervention and its resolution and outcomes.
  • Identify the role of culture in contributing contexts through the lens of culture.
  • Critically assess more practice-based texts from the field representing the experiences of practitioners.
  • Analyse concepts and methodologies developed during the study-unit and explain concepts and assessments you have made.
